Coroner IDs Allentown Man Killed In Shooting At City Park

Officials have named the victim in the deadly Fountain Park shooting on Saturday evening, June 1.

Angel Martinez Velez, 25, was struck by multiple gunshots around 6:30 p.m., according to Allentown police and the Lehigh County Coroner's Office. 

He was pronounced dead at the scene on the 900 block of Martin Luther King Drive, authorities said. 

Martinez Velez's cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of death was homicide, the coroner said after an autopsy on Monday, June 3. 

Mayor Matthew Tuerk called the shooting "a terrible and preventable tragedy" in a statement over the weekend. 

"Our parks are our havens and some hateful individuals tried to take that away from us," he wrote. 

The shooting remains under investigation by Allentown police. Anyone with information is asked to call 610-437-7721.
